The Bar of Northern Ireland took up oars for the Welcome Organisation Dragon Boat Race on Saturday 30th September 2017 on the River Lagan, raising over £6000.

The Welcome Organisation is the Bar of Northern Ireland’s chosen charity of the year and provides practical assistance to those affected by homelessness.

The Bar raced against other local organisations including Elliott Duffy Garrett, Madden Finucane and Bullitt Hotel. Spectators were treated to exciting races on the water and family fun on dry land with face painters, food and crafts to be enjoyed by those who came out to support the rowers.

Adele O’Grady QC, Chair of the Charity Committee said after the race

“Huge thanks to all of our rowers who took the time to participate on race day and to raise funds for The Welcome Organisation. The sun shone, our rowers sweated but were pipped at the post to a place in the final by just 2 seconds.

Thanks as well to all members, family and friends who donated. We have raised close to £6000 which is just amazing. It’s a fantastic start to the new fundraising term!”
