Bar Charity Chair congratulates Welcome Organisation CEO on MBE Honour

The Bar of Northern Ireland is delighted to congratulate Sandra Moore on her New Year’s Honour. Sandra is the Chief Executive of The Welcome Organisation, the Bar’s Charity of the Year.

Adele O’Grady QC said;

“We are thrilled to see the excellent work of Sandra Moore MBE and the Welcome Organisation recognised in this way. Her enthusiasm, dedication and passion for the cause of the homeless in Northern Ireland is outstanding. I want to extend to her and her family our congratulations on this wonderful news.”

Sandra Moore MBE added;

“Being awarded an MBE is a great honour and my initial reaction to receiving the communication was pure shock with my husband’s immediate reaction being something was wrong. He took over reading the letter to me as I couldn’t get past the first lines. So although a confidential notification I did share it with my other half.

“Although I have spent over 40 years in the housing and homelessness sectors changing my roles many times I have been committed to the Welcome Organisation Belfast Homelessness services for the last 10 years. Our services are steadily expanding and although we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last decade we of course want to do more to make a real difference to peoples lives.

“The award is testament to the contribution of my support team, volunteers, very kind donors and all of those who make our work in the homelessness sector possible. At times like this, one’s parents come to mind. Sadly mine died many years ago but I know they would have been immensely proud as I hope my husband, children and friends are as they have been behind me in the challenges and celebrations along the way.”
