Bar condemns murder of Judges in Afghanistan

The Bar of Northern Ireland condemns in the strongest terms the murder of two female Judges in Kabul, Afghanistan on 17 January. The Bar offers its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the murdered Judges.

This shocking news represents the latest in a series of unrelenting attacks on the justice system and the rule of law in Afghanistan. It was a direct attack on the right of women in Afghanistan to participate in the administration of justice.

The Bar of Northern Ireland stands in solidarity with the dedicated judges, lawyers, prosecutors, court staff and all of those in Afghanistan who put their lives at risk on a daily basis to maintain an independent system of justice, crucial to the rule of law.
