Barristers - TV Documentary
A new ground breaking documentary series gives viewers a unique and unprecedented insight into Northern Ireland’s legal system. In the five part series, Barristers cameras go behind-the-scenes into the world of the country’s top legal minds as they work alongside solicitors on a variety of cases for a wide range of clients.
This series is the first time in Northern Ireland cameras have had access to the people working at the heart of our court system which handles around 90,000 cases each year, dealing with legal problems affecting many areas of everyday life.
Throughout the series, which was filmed over 15 months, we meet 14 of Northern Ireland’s leading barristers.
Mark Mulholland QC, Chairman of the Bar Council of Northern Ireland said: “The public are entitled to know what we do. And we feel we have a responsibility and duty to tell the public what we do in the administration of justice”.
Kelda Crawford McCann, Producer / Director, Crawford McCann Ltd said: “We followed a range of cases that reflect the day to day work that goes on in court houses across Northern Ireland – everything from a parent trying to arrange contact with their children, people hurt in accidents taking personal injury cases, religious discrimination at work and families going through a Public Inquiry. Our cameras also follow one case all the way to the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court in London. This series reveals a world that many of us have never seen”.
Barristers is a Crawford McCann production for BBC Northern Ireland
