Criminal Bar Conference 2018

This year’s much anticipated Annual Criminal Bar Conference took place on Saturday 16th June at the Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast.

The conference, which was titled ‘The Disclosure Symposium’ welcomed a varied and highly accomplished range of speakers who each presented speeches on the events chosen subject of disclosure.

Speakers included Mr Justice Colton- Disclosure, The Judicial Perspective, Dr John Stannard – Famous non-Disclosure Cases, Angela Rafferty QC – Non-Disclosure – The Consequences, Karl Laird BCL, LLB – Disclosure and Abuse of Process, The Rt Hon Sir Reginal Weir – Reflections on Non-Disclosure and Michael Collins SC – Reflections on the life of John Philpot Curran.

A highlight of the day was an emotional presentation to Barry Valentine, who was recently awarded an OBE for services to the legal profession and the courts as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The conference was followed by an evening black tie dinner also held at the Crumlin Road Gaol.
