Criminal Justice (Committal Reform) Bill
The Bar Council submitted a response to the Northern Ireland Assembly Justice Committee’s call for written evidence on the Criminal Justice (Committal Reform) Bill in January 2021. This Bill provides for two main policy objectives, namely the abolition of oral evidence at committal and the introduction of direct transfer of cases to the Crown Court for all indictable offences.
