Preliminary report into the law and procedure in serious sexual offences in Northern Ireland

The Bar Council welcomes the publication of the preliminary report into the law and procedure in serious sexual offences in Northern Ireland led by Sir John Gillen.

The Bar Council recognises that this review has drawn upon a range of insights and experiences to help inform this detailed series of 221 recommendations aimed at delivering the best approach to be adopted in relation to these cases. We will carefully consider the recommendations before responding to the public consultation and individual Bar Associations may also separately submit their own views on the report.
