Slieve Donard Trek raises over 21k for AWARE

Congratulations to all our members who braved the elements of Slieve Donard at the weekend, raising over £21k for this year’s chosen charity AWARE.

The competition has been heating up over the last few weeks to find out which of the Associations would raise the most money for the mental health charity and lift the much-coveted Tim Ferriss Memorial Cup.

Around 30 members, divided into teams representing the Commercial Bar, Criminal Bar, Family Bar, Personal Injuries Bar, Young Bar and Chancery Bar, made it up the 850m summit, with the Family Bar picking up the Cup, which has been named in memory of former colleague Tim Ferriss QC, who sadly passed away from bowel cancer a number of years ago. Tim was highly regarded throughout the Bar and a tremendous supporter of charitable causes throughout his esteemed career.

Adele O’Grady, chairperson of the Bar Library charity committee, said they are delighted to have raised such a significant amount of money.

“The event was met with the unflagging enthusiasm of the teams matched by the huge generosity of members of the Bar Library and their supporters, friends and family. We are grateful to all of those who helped to make this event such a staggering success. While the Family Bar team won the Memorial Cup in its inaugural year, over £21,000 was raised which will go directly towards funding mental health services run by AWARE NI.

On behalf of the Charity Committee, huge thanks to everyone who embraced this event and made it the success that it was.”
